1. Alexandria Lighthouse
Alexandria, a city that captivates visitors, is home to many tourist attractions, the most notable being the Alexandria Lighthouse, which was built in the 3rd century BC. This lighthouse was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, reaching a height of about 130 meters and located on Pharos Island. Unfortunately, we can no longer see this magnificent landmark after it was destroyed by two earthquakes in the 14th century, but you can visit the "Qaitbay Citadel," built in its place in 1480 AD, which is considered one of the city's most prominent tourist attractions.
2. The Column of Pompey
The Column of Pompey is an architectural masterpiece from the Roman era, constructed by Emperor Diocletian in a prominent location near the Kom el-Shuqafa hill and the Serapeum Temple. The column is made of red granite sourced from Aswan, standing at a height of 30.46 meters with a diameter of 2.71 meters at its base, and weighing around 285 tons. This column is one of Alexandria's most famous tourist sites and represents significant historical value.
3. Montazah Palace
Montazah Palace is situated on a hill overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and is a wonderful destination for visitors. The palace features vast gardens, as well as the Salamlek Palace, which was established by Khedive Abbas II in 1892 and used as a hunting lodge. President Anwar Sadat renewed the palace to become a presidential residence. 4. Bibliotheca Alexandrina
The ancient Library of Alexandria was one of the greatest libraries in history, founded by Ptolemy I Soter in the 3rd century BC and housing around 700,000 rare manuscripts. On October 16, 2022, the new Bibliotheca Alexandrina, promoted by UNESCO, was inaugurated, containing a vast collection of ancient documents. The library's design reflects the sunset, embodying the vision of Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer. It is an important tourist attraction, especially during the summer months.
5. Roman Museum
The Roman Museum is located in the Kom el-Dikka area and is a gem from the Roman era built in the 4th century AD. It was discovered by Polish scholars while searching for the tomb of Alexander the Great. The museum features a theater consisting of 13 rows numbered in Greek, as well as two beautifully decorated halls. It also contains lecture halls, making it suitable for hosting lectures and celebrations.
